Levi & Zoey
Felis concolor
- PUMA

Levi, born in 1990, is
typical of the Pumas found in the Pacific Northwest while Zoey, born in
1987,
is a Patagonian Puma
native to South America. She has distinctive features including,
long back legs, short
front legs, a small head and a long bushy tail.
She is designed for the
cold steep terrain of Argentina.
Levi came to live with us
when he was 4 weeks old and was raised
in the house until he was
7 months old. In a few short years, he went from being
an only child to living
with all of these neighbors. He fell in love with Zoey when
she moved in next door in
February 1992 and in May of that year they were introduced
to each other. They
immediately hit it off and took turns sleeping in each others den boxes.
They are a shy couple,
not wanting to be seen together,
but you can occasionally
watch them playing with each other.
We have even caught them
sleeping together.
Zoey had a rough life
before being rescued by Terry Raines.
Terry placed Zoey with
Cat Tales just prior to moving
to Australia where she
married “The Crocodile Hunter”.
They now host their own
program on Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet.
Levi has the unique
feature of being one of the rare Pumas who’s eyes stay blue.
He has a haunting steel
blue gaze which seems to warn others to leave his mate alone.
It works, as most of the
staff will agree.
