"African Lion Dog"

The picture on the
right shows "Lbs" hanging out next to his "Little Brother", Jambo the
African Lion.
Jambo
was rescued from a field near Detroit where he was left to die. An over
zealous football fan wanting
to own his own “Detroit
Lion” acquired Jambo when he was only a few weeks old
from the animal black
market. He then discovered it was
illegal to own a Lion in Michigan
so Jambo was dumped in a vacant lot to
freeze to death in 30 degree
below zero weather.
He was recovered and stabilized so he could be flown
here to Cat Tales.
We nursed him back to
health and he became an outreach ambassador for the zoo.
To teach
him how to walk on a leash, the zoo’s Guard Dog, “Lbs”,
was walked in front of the baby lion. The Lion followed the dog’s bushy tail
and learned to walk on lead.
The two developed a bond that remains today.
They would still live together (which
they did until a few years ago) except
the Dog kept beating up the Lion and would not share the den.
Sounds
incredible, but it is totally true.
“Lbs” thinks he is a Lion and the Lion
thinks he is a big dog
with a “Big Brother” who won’t share the bedroom.
